Opinion on whether European Parliament should become more or less important 2023

As of 2023, a majority of European Union citizens agree that the European Parliament should become more or less important within the EU, with 54 percent of respondents agreeing compared to only 29 percent who thought the parliament should become less important. An additional 10 percent of respondents thought there should be no change to the importance of the parliament in the EU, while seven percent said they did not know. 

There is significant divergence between the opinions of citizens in different EU countries, with 88 percent of Cypriots, 70 percent of Spaniards, and 69 percent of Luxembourgers believing that the parliament should increase in importance, while 55 percent of Czechians, 54 percent of Slovakians, and 43 percent of Austrians preferred the opposite.
