The most popular cake variety in Japan was shortcake as revealed in a survey conducted in April 2022. Almost one in three respondents named shortcakes their preferred cakes, which commonly take the form of sponge-based strawberry cakes in Japan. Strawberry shortcakes are a popular holiday confection eaten on Christmas.
