This statistic shows the leading therapy areas in U.S. healthcare in terms of patients treated in 2013. In that year, almost 46 million people were treated for hypertension in the United States. Patients shown in these leading chronic therapy areas represent some 45 percent of spending and 51 percent of prescriptions in 2013.

This data excludes mail order and long-term care. Therapy areas are based on proprietary IMS Health definitions. Patients treated in these 20 leading chronic therapy areas represent 45% of spending and 61% of prescriptions in 2013.
