Breakdown of methane emissions in the United Kingdom 2022, by sector
The agriculture sector was responsible for around 50 percent of UK methane (CH4) emissions in 2022, making it the largest source of this potent greenhouse gas. The majority of CH4 from this sector comes from enteric fermentation in cattle. The second-largest contributor to UK methane emissions is the waste management sector.
