As of 2023, ownership over North Sea drilling licenses for the United Kingdom Continental Shelf was spread across companies with headquarters in some 16 different countries. Of these, companies with headquarters in the United Kingdom only accounted for 46.5 percent, meaning foreign entities made up the majority of equity stakes in the UK North Sea.
