As of September 12, Greece had more land burned by wildfires than any other country in the Mediterranean basin in 2023. The Mediterranean country has lost nearly 173,800 hectares to wildland fires, a significant increase compared to the 43,490 hectares burned yearly on average between 2006 and 2022.
