Preferred beverage for Japanese sweets in Japan 2022
Green tea variations were the most popular drink to pair with Japanese-style confectioneries, as revealed in a survey conducted in July 2022 in Japan. Over 59 percent of respondents named green tea their preferred beverage to drink when eating Japanese sweets, with roasted green tea following in second place. Powdered green tea (matcha) which is also served with traditional sweets (wagashi) in Japanese tea ceremonies was named by 35.1 percent of respondents.
