Children using social media to feel better in Denmark 2018, by age and gender
In 2018, 42 percent of girls at 13 years of age used social media as a means to forget negative emotions, which was an increase of more than ten percent when compared to 11-year-old girls. For the Danish boys, this tendency declined with age. While 27 percent of the boys in the youngest age group had this problem, this was the case for 24 percent of the boys in the oldest age group. Overall, girls took more refuge in social media when experiencing negative emotions.
