Snapchat knows its audience: young, AI hungry, and app happy. Not only does a platform based on fun bode well for parent company Snap Inc., but an affordable subscription fee is also working well. Being the pioneer of Stories, a type of content that lasts just 24 hours, Snapchat defined itself as an innovator, and other major players eventually followed suit. In an online world where social media companies move away from relying solely on advertising, Snapchat has tuned in to what Generation Z want, and market leaders should take heed – this underdog is hot on their heels.
An artificial intelligence powered chatbot called My AI has been available on Snapchat since 2023. The chatbot is capable of being integrated into group chats and providing recommendations on Snap Map and Lenses. Snapchat+ users can take advantage of special features, including the ability to share and receive visual generative Snaps. As of the first quarter of 2024, Snapchat had around nine million Snapchat+ subscribers, up from five million in the last quarter of 2023, indicating the price is right for Snapchat’s younger audiences.
Despite Snapchat's shortcomings in terms of downloads, its popularity among Generation Z and Millennials is setting it up for long term success. Snapchat finds global reach
Audiences can be found in places that are not the most usual for this kind of social media platform. The app had a reach of 76.5 percent in Saudi Arabia as of April 2024, followed by 73.5 percent reach in Bahrain and 71.7 percent in Norway. The country with the highest number of Snapchat users is India, with over 200 million users as of April 2024. The United States and Pakistan followed with 106 million users and 31.9 million users, respectively. Overall, in 2023, there were a total of just over 585 million global Snapchat users.Subscriptions and AI integration are attractive to users
There is a great deal of anticipation about AI and social media integration, as well as the fact that social media companies do not want to rely exclusively on advertising to generate income. Snapchat is finding its feet
Snapchat is well known in the United States, ranking second only to Facebook Messenger when it comes to messenger service brand awareness. As of January 2024, Snapchat had seen a 6.8 percent year-on-year increase in audience growth, and whilst that means its annual audience expansion falls behind Instagram and Pinterest, it is ahead of market leaders Facebook and YouTube.
