Vodka origins
Vodka is a clear distilled alcoholic beverage. Most vodka is made from fermented grains, after the fermentation process it is then distilled to increase the alcohol by volume (ABV) to between 30 and 40 percent. The product originated from Poland and Russia according to records from the eighth and ninth-centuries. In 2017, worldwide sales volume reached around 340 million 9-liter cases.
The vodka market in Canada
Sales of vodka reached approximately 1.31 billion Canadian dollars in 2017, an increase of around 0.1 billion Canadian dollars since 2012. Over half of these sales were from Canadian-made products, and the majority was sold in Ontario. Sales in Ontario totaled around 494 million Canadian dollars in 2016/17.
