This statistic shows the development of the North's population in relation to the total population of England (UK) between 1801 and 2013. While there was a steady increase in population in the North over the first assessed century, finally peaking at over 36 percent in 1911, a continuous decrease began after WWI. The decreasing trend continued up until the most recent figure - the same proportion as in 1821.
