Global annual CO₂ emission factor changes 2022, by select country
The global average carbon dioxide emission factor increased 0.5 percent in 2022. The carbon factor is measured by the CO₂ emissions produced per metric ton of oil equivalent energy consumed (tCO₂/toe). Brazil observed one of the largest annual carbon factor reductions in 2022, at 8.7 percent. In contrast, the carbon factor in Mexico increased 7.9 percent. The carbon factor in several European countries increased in 2022, primarily due to increased coal-fired power generation and reduced nuclear generation.
