Number of compulsory earthquake insurance policies in Turkey 2001-2023
The number of compulsory earthquake insurance policies in Turkey generally increased throughout the observed period. The number of policies went up from 2.43 million in 2001 to almost 11.7 million in 2023. Compulsory earthquake insurance in Turkey was introduced in 2000 following the major earthquakes that occurred in 1999 in the country.
Compulsory earthquake insurance (DASK) covers material and financial damages to the insured buildings caused by an earthquake, fire, explosion, tsunami, and landslide that may occur during or after an earthquake.
