The price of bananas in Russia was over 42 percent higher during the week ending October 23, 2023, compared to end-December 2022. The cost of other fruits and vegetables, such as apples, tomatoes, carrots, white cabbage, and red beat, also saw a significant increase. At the same time, prices of selected dairy products declined. Food prices were impacted by international sanctions imposed on Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine that started on February 24, 2022.
