Percentage of people living in poverty in Latin America 2021, by ethnicity
Since 2005, indigenous was the ethnicity in Latin America, by far, with the highest share of population living in poverty. In 2021, 30 percent of the afro-descendant population had an average per capita income below the poverty line, meanwhile, the share of indigenous people living under the poverty line was more than double that, at 46.3 percent. Furthermore, afro-descendants are the ethnic group that has experience the largest poverty reduction throughout the analyzed period.
