Global carbon dioxide emissions from fuel combustion increased 2.5 percent in 2022, compared to 2021. Indonesia observed the largest annual emissions increase in 2022, at 28.2 percent. Mexico followed, with emissions in the Central American country rising 10.5 percent from the previous year. Emissions in China and the United States - the world's two biggest emitters - also increased in 2022, by roughly one percent each.
