Of the animal-based food commodities that contribute the most to global greenhouse gas emissions, beef is by far the largest polluter. According to a recent study, global beef production releases an estimated 4.3 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent annually. This accounts for approximately one quarter of global food emissions.
