Superheroes and Animals Ruled the Box Office in 2016
Box Office
Movies about superheroes and animals ruled the global box office last year. Captain America: Civil War led the way, grossing over $1.1 billion. It enjoyed massive success since its world premier in Los Angeles in April, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2016 as well as the 12th highest-grossing film of all time.
Finding Dory, the 3D computer animated sequel/spinoff to Finding Nemo, comes second. It also experienced huge success, bringing in over $1 billion at the box office, the first Pixar film to do so since Toy Story 3 in 2010. Another 3D computer animated film rounded off the top-three. Disney's Zootopia also crossed the billion mark, grossing slightly less than Finding Dory.
