In 2023, there was a total of 120 million metric tons of sand and gravel consumed in the United States for industrial purposes. That year, about 5.7 billion U.S. dollars worth of industrial sand and gravel was produced by 122 different companies operating in 32 different states. Most of the produced material was used as hydraulic fracking sand and well-packing and cementing sand.
