This statistic shows the average length of Medicare primary inpatient hospital stays in the United States in 2016, by disease. In this year, an primary Medicare asthma patient stayed an average of 3.8 days in IDN hospitals. Medicare currently provides coverage for the largest portion of inpatient cases. Among the selected medical conditions, diabetes mellitus patients had the highest average length of stay, with almost five days.
