In comparison, the worldwide vehicle sales increased during the same period, from 88 million in 2014 to 95 million in 2018. During this period, passenger car sales outperformed worldwide commercial car sales with 68.6 million to 26.3 million respectively.
Regional outlook
In 2018, Iran led the Middle Eastern region in passenger car sales, followed by Saudi Arabia and Israel. Currently, the passenger car fleet size in the Middle East is almost 35 million, to which Iran has made the biggest contribution. Pickups and SUV led the sales for passenger cars in the region, while over 70 percent of commercial vehicle sales were classed as LCV. According to projections, the sales volume of passenger cars in the Middle East is estimated to rise to over three million by 2024.
